For a few years there have been rumors that Disney was going to remake their classic 1989 feature, The Little Mermaid. It appears those rumors are true and we've got some casting news!
Actress and comedian, Awkwafina is currently in talks to portray eccentric seagull, Scuttle. Also in talks is 12-year-old Jacob Tremblay, who would be providing the voice of Ariel's fish friend, Flounder.
According to People, reps for both actors have not commented.
It was reported that Melissa McCarthy is also in talks to appear in the live action adaptation to play Ursula the sea witch.
As if this movie couldn't get any bigger, it will feature songs from the original 1989 animated feature, as well as new songs from Alan Menken and co-producer Lin-Manuel Miranda.
No news on a potential release date for this one, but Disney's next big live action adaptation, The Lion King, hits theaters July 19th.
