An all new musical is coming to the George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick New Jersey. Last Days of Summer, a musical by Jason Howland and Steve Kluger, is set to kick off the 2019-2020 season for them and we have some casting news!
Teal Wicks (The Cher Show), and Bobby Conte Thornton (A Bronx Tale) will star in the Jeff Calhoun (Newsies) directed production. The show will run October 15th through November 10th.
Wicks and Thornton will be joined by Danny Bonstock, Don Stephenson, Mylinda Hull, Will Burton, Christine Pedi, Julian Lerner, Parker Weathersbee, Gilberto Moretti-Hamilton, and more.
Creative team includes set design by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Lauren Shaw, lighting from Ken Billington, sound from Brian Ronan, and musical direction from Lon Hoyt.
Last Days of Summer synopsis:
In this new musical featuring a cast of 16, Joe Margolis and his young son open an old box of letters that transport Joe back to his youth in Brooklyn and the summer of 1942 — when young Joey and his best friend Craig are writing fan letters to their hero Charlie Banks, the star third baseman of the New York Giants. Amid the tumultuous events of World War II, Joey and Charlie forge an unlikely friendship that might be the very thing they both need.Last Days of Summerfeatures a new score of Big-Band sounds and Jazz music of the era.
