It's the start of something new!
During Disney's three-day convention in Anaheim, California, the 2019 D23 Expo, offered a special treat for musical theatre fans - the brand new trailer for Disney +'s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. The new 10 episode series will be released on November 12 in tandem with the launch of Disney Plus, the company’s new streaming service that will host most of Disney’s film catalogue, and more.
The series takes place in the real-life East High, where the original movie was filmed, and follows students as they audition for and countdown to their school's first production of High School Musical. The trailer gives us a first look of characters like Ricky (Joshua Bassett), Nini (Olivia Rodrigo), and E.J. (Matt Cornett) in action. With meta references and some docu-style elements, it's a modern take on the "classic" from 15 years ago.
According to Polygon, Disney Plus subscription costs $6.99 per month, but Disney is bundling the service with both Hulu and ESPN Plus at a $12.99 price point. Visit DisneyPlus.com to learn more and watch the trailer above.
