Be More Chill will open in London after it’s successful Broadway run.
The musical uses pop-rock and sci- fi elements to tell the story of an anxious teen who takes a pill to become more popular. The show's soundtrack played a part in the shows popularity. The soundtrack was streamed 300 million times which helped the show become a word-of-mouth hit in the United States.
The show first premiered in 2015 at the Two River Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey. After a limited run there, little was made of the cast soundtrack which was quietly released on streaming services.
In 2017, the number of online listers exploded and the show began to gain a following, specifically among young people. Most of these fans had not seen the show but still created Tumblr pages, Youtube videos, blogs and art fiction dedicated to the show. The online interest in the show prompted an off-Broadway production before eventually being transferred to the Lyceum Theatre for a run on Broadway
Be More Chill will open at The Other Palace in London in February 2020.
