Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center has announced the cancellation of all performances through May 10 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bye Bye Birdie, starring James Van Der Beek and Carly Hughes, is one of the programs that has abruptly ended production. It was slated to run from April 23-28.
"As we continue to prioritize the health and well-being of our patrons, artists, staff, volunteers and community at large, the Kennedy Center has canceled all public performances and events scheduled through Sunday, May 10, 2020, in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19," said a press representative in a statement.
According to the Kennedy Center's official website:
Ticketholders for performances scheduled to take place between now and May 10, 2020, have the following options:
- Exchange your tickets for a future date or alternate show (where possible)
- Donate your tickets, and receive a tax deduction for the total ticket value
- Exchange your tickets for a Kennedy Center gift certificate, or
- Receive a full refund for the value of the ticket and associated fees
Ticket holders are urged to donate their tickets in order to help sustain revenue during this time.
