Tony Award-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell revealed during a call-in to 710 WOR's Len Berman and Michael Riedel that he would no longer be singing “The Impossible Dream” from his Manhattan apartment window each evening at 7pm, which he had been doing as a tribute to first responders during the corona virus pandemic. “I started seeing people gathering in front of my apartment, not social distancing, and drivers not paying attention so I spoke to the NYPD about it and they said the best thing to do was to stop singing” Mitchell told Len and Michael.
The actor also discussed his own recovery from the corona virus with Len and Michael. Riedel asked Stokes Mitchell what kind of symptoms he developed. The actor revealed that “[He] had a fever, the worst headache of my life, and I lost my sense of taste and smell as everybody does.” He was able to talk with a doctor over the phone and was guided on what to do. “[The doctor] gave advice and prescriptions as well; over the course of 12-15 days my temperature started to go down” said Brian Stokes Mitchell.
Later, Len Berman asked about his involvement with The Actor’s Fund, where he currently serves as Chairman, and if there is any stress on it because of the way things are now. Mitchell said, “Normally in a year we would give about $2 Million in assistance to about 2,000 people but at this point we’ve given away $7 and a half million to about 65,000 people.”
