Deadline reported today that Isaac Powell, most recently seen in the 2020 revival of West Side Story, will join the upcoming film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen. Powell will take on the role of the high school jock Rhys and this will mark his feature film debut.
Previously announced, Ben Platt will reprise his role of Evan Hansen in this film. Platt originated the role of Evan in early workshops of the musical, and went on to win the 2017 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. The film will also star Amy Adams as Cynthia Murphy, Kaitlyn Dever as Zoe Murphy, Colton Ryan as Connor Murphy, Nik Dodani as Jared Kleinman and Amandla Stenberg as Alana Beck.
Steven Levenson wrote the book for the stage musical as well as the script wrote the script, and Benj Pasek and Justin Paul wrote the music and penned the original lyrics for the musical and film. Stephen Chbosky is set to direct, with Marc Platt and Adam Siegel as producers for their Universal-based Marc Platt Productions.
