Starting today the new NBC Peacock musical comedy series Girls5eva (created by Meredith Scardino) starring Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Busy Philipps, and Paula Pell is available on the new streaming platform. Recently Executive Producer Jeff Richmond (Mean Girls, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and cast Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton, The Color Purple, Rent), Busy Philipps (Busy Tonight) and Paula Pell (SNL, 30 Rock) joined iHeartRadio Broadway's SJ Arnegger to talk about how they knew this was a dream project from the minute they read through the first virtual table read. They also chat about creating new music for the show as well as the overarching message behind the show: that a women can find her voice at any age. Girls5Eva also has deep ties to the Broadway community with Ashley Park, Daniel Breaker, Andrew Rannells and Erika Henningsen rounding out the cast.
From NBC, the official Girls5Eva: When a one-hit-wonder girl group from the 90’s gets sampled by a young rapper, its members reunite to give their pop star dreams one more shot. They may be grown women balancing spouses, kids, jobs, debt, aging parents, and shoulder pain, but can‘t they also be Girls5eva?
Meredith Scardino serves as creator and executive producer for the series. Jeff Richmond, Tina Fey (Little Stranger, Inc.), Robert Carlock (Bevel Gears), David Miner (3 Arts Entertainment), Eric Gurian (Little Stanger) will also serve as executive producers. Girls5eva is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
