This morning the nominations for the 94th Annual Academy Awards were announced and Broadway fans favorites were among the nominees. Ariana DeBose was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Anita in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story. DeBose has already received the Golden Globe Award and picked up nominations for the BAFTA, SAG, Critics' Choice and NACCP Award for her work in West Side Story. West Side Story racked up the nominations with Best Direction (Steven Spielberg), Costume Design (Tony Winner Paul Tazewell), Cinematography, Sound, Film Editing, Production Design and more.
Lin-Manuel Miranda earned a nomination for Best Song for his "Dos Oruguitas" in Encanto, which also went on to earn a nomination for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Score. Miranda's recent screen adaptation of Jonathan Larson's tick, tick...BOOM! for Netflix was nominated for Film Editing while Tony Winner Andrew Garfield received a nomination for Best Actor for his performance as Jonathan Larson.
