Tony Award-winning actress Beth Leavel is set to star in Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends, marking her fifteenth Broadway show. Leavel, who has been nominated for three Tony Awards, most recently for The Prom, sat down with Christine Nagy on the Inside Broadway podcast to discuss her latest role.
Leavel described the production as "one musical that goes from his greatest hit to his greatest hit, to oh my gosh, I didn't know he wrote that, to what an interesting song choice this is. And it's kind of a revue, elaborately and deliciously produced with beautiful sets and costumes. You just sit back, fasten your seat belt, and enjoy Stephen Sondheim with this amazing cast of some of the most talented people, led by Bernadette Peters."
Expressing her deep connection to Sondheim's music, Leavel added, "I feel like I am swimming in a Sondheim pool that I never want to get out of. Even when I'm not singing, I like to be in the wings just listening and feeling his music."
Old Friends runs through Sunday, June 15th, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Tickets are available at Telecharge.com and the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre box office.
