James Corden is hosting the 2019 Tony Awards.
The 40-year-old comedian will do the honors of emceeing the 73rd annual awards ceremony at Radio City Music Hall in New York on June 9, Playbill announced Tuesday (March 19). The gig will celebrate Corden's second time serving as the master of ceremonies at the event since he previously assumed the role at Beacon Theatre for the 2016 Tonys.
"James is not only a beloved talent—he is also a veteran of the stage and has a true passion for Broadway,” remarked Broadway League and American Theatre Wing presidents Charlotte St. Martin and Heather Hitchens. "We cannot wait to see what he has in store for us this year at the Tony Awards."
“I’m thrilled to be returning to host the Tony Awards, the Broadway community is very dear to my heart and I’m beyond proud to be part of this incredibly special night,” Corden added of the opportunity in a statement.
In 2012, the Into the Woods actor took home the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for his star turn as Francis Henshall in Richard Bean's 2011 stage production of One Man, Two Guvnors. Corden made his theatrical debut in 1996's Martin Guerre.
No stranger to taking center stage, the Mary Poppins Returns entertainer has also hosted other primetime awards shows including the BRIT Awards (2009-14) and the Grammy Awards (2017-18).
All nominations for the 2019 Tony Awards, set to air on CBS, will be unveiled on April 30.
