DAAAAAAAYO! Alex Brightman has been nominated for the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his performance as "Beetlejuice" in Beetlejuice The Musical!
Michael Riedel caught up with Brightman following the news of his Tony Award nomination to talk about the show's energy and what he brings to it as well as changes from the production from Washington D.C. to Broadway.
"There's something about an energy of a show that I enjoy being a part of that energy. I would be happy to sit in a chair for an entire show, but inevitably I would give that chair some energy and it would start vibrating. I have a lot of energy and I like to be able to exercise it in a certain way anyway, so being able to do it on stage is a dream come true. I am encouraged to let loose."
In addition to Brightman's Tony nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, Beetlejuice is also nominated for 8 other Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, and Best Costume Design of a Musical.
