Audiences will now have to wait to see the highly anticipated film adaptation of In the Heights until next summer. The Lin-Manuel Miranda big screen adaptation will now hit theaters June 18, 2021 instead of June of 2020 as originally scheduled.
Variety reports that the coronavirus pandemic has affected post production on the movie as crews are now forced to work from home and observe social distancing.
Jon M. Chu directs the movie and said this on Twitter on Tuesday:
After long conversations &sleepless nights of uncertainty, we have decided the best time to release In The Heights is next summer when people will feel the MOST comfortable celebrating in a movie theater TOGETHER.
The movie stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Melissa Barrera, Jimmy Smits, Daphne Rubin-Vega and Stephanie Beatriz.
