Broadway favorite Jelani Alladin sat down with CBS News to voice explains why it is so painful when white social media users' feeds suddenly go silent.
In the aftermath of George Floyd's death and with Black Lives Matter protests sweeping the country, Alladin explains, "It's incredibly hurtful, particularly to people I considered friends. This happened this morning. A friend of mine posted something without posting anything about #BlackLivesMatter... Let me give you the definition of social media. Social means relating to society and media is the means of mass communication. That means it is the portal at this time when we are told to stay in our homes to avoid getting contact with other people because of Coronavirus, it is one of the most powerful means to communicate right now..."
