On January 28th the Educational Theatre Foundation will be presenting Theatre Alive! A Celebration of School Theatre as a virtual gala and will be live streamed for free at 8:30 p.m. (EST). Theatre Alive! will feature an exciting lineup of performers that include Tina Fey, Wayne Brady, Jennifer Hudson, Audra McDonald, and Amber Riley, along with emcees Nia Vardalos and John Stamos. The audience will be treated to showcase performances from film, theatre, and television professionals alongside current high school students.
Directly after the livestream the Educational Theatre Foundation, in conjunction with Open Jar Studios, will be hosting a VIP after-party for audience members who donate $1,000 or more for the Theatre Alive! event. The VIP after-party will feature a performance and talkback with special guest Kate Baldwin and will be hosted by iHeartRadio Broadway's SJ Arnegger. During the VIP after-Party Kate Baldwin will be accompanied by composer/lyricist, music director and music producer Georgia Stitt. Kate Baldwin recently starred as Irene Molloy opposite Bette Midler, David Hyde Pierce and Gavin Creel in the hit Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly!, for which she was nominated for the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critic's Circle awards. She originated the role of Sandra Bloom in Big Fish on Broadway and earned accolades and a Drama Desk Award nomination for her work as Leslie Lyntonn Benedict in Michael John LaChiusa’s Giant at The Public Theatre. She received a Drama Desk Award nomination for her role as Jen in Keen Company's 20th Anniversary revival of Andrew Lippa and Tom Greenwald's John & Jen. She garnered critical acclaim and a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for Tom Kitt and John Logan’s Superhero at Second Stage. But it was her starring role in the 2009 revival of Yip Harburg's and Burton Lane's hit classic musical Finian's Rainbow, which drew Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critic's Circle Award nominations and put her on the map as "a real musical theatre star." Theatre Alive!: A Celebration of School Theatre, co-chaired by Broadway and television producer Robert Greenblatt and film and television producer Neil Meron, will be livestreamed on iHeartRadio Broadway. This virtual event, normally held in person, is being opened for all theatre lovers to attend and enjoy. Attendees can to secure their free ticket and to receive notifications as new stars are added to the lineup. The inspiring program will support two critical ETF programs: Thespian Relief Grants to Save School Theatre, which assist theatre programs financially struggling from effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the new Pathway program to address racial disparity in theatre.
