New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he intends to stay with the New York Jets if he decides to continue his NFL career in 2025.
Rodgers, who turns 41 next week, addressed speculation over his future during his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday (November 28).
“I don’t even know if I want to play yet, but New York would be my first option," Rodgers said.
Rodgers' comments came hours after interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said the Jets would "absolutely" start the four-time NFL MVP in Sunday's (December 1) game against the Seattle Seahawks amid speculation that he could possibly be benched.
Rodgers is in the midst of one of the worst seasons of his career, throwing for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions on 241 of 380 passing, going 3-8 in 11 starts, which has resulted in the firings of former head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.
“When you’re 40 going on 41, you’re obviously at the end of your career so, obviously if it’s New York, they have to want me to be here, and then new GM, new staff, all have to want me to be with the Jets. And then body-wise, got to see how I’m feeling, and if I want to sign up to go back to the grind,” Rodgers added.
Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during his first drive of the 2023 NFL season -- months after being acquired in a trade with the Green Bay Packers -- and has reportedly dealt with hamstring, knee and ankle injuries since Week 4, but claims to be feeling healthy in recent weeks. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Rodgers has refused getting imaging done on his injuries in order to avoid learning the severity of them and continue playing, which Ulbrich said he was unaware of.
“I have not been informed of that either way,” Ulbrich said via the New York Post. “That’s news to me.”
